Autumn Camp 2025

Members of our Company and Seniors sections joined with 4th Portsmouth Company for an action packed weekend in The New Forest. We stayed at Tile Barn – a Hampshire Outdoor Centre that was used as a war hospital from 1915 – 1919, treating soldiers from New Zealand and India after the famous Gallipoli campaigns during World War 1.

The boys arrived early evening on Friday and after getting stuck into pitching their tents and arranging beds for the weekend was followed by some energy burning wide games.

Vertical Gym

Saturday was a full on day. After a breakfast selection to rival some hotel brands the rest of the morning was all about getting to the activities. Split into two groups the boys switched between Archery and the Vertical Gym challenge to take us up until lunchtime.

The weather continued to treat us well for the afternoon, allowing us to get out in groups to explore the forest and undertake some navigation skills. The Senior boys also taught themselves some interesting ‘tunes’ on the kazoo, much to the amusement of the resident New Forest Ponies.

Ice Cream Stop

Our Saturday evening was started with a pasta dinner, some rather dubiously cooked (burnt) garlic bread and recovery from the walking. A campfire, devotions, glostick games and some star gazing at the very clear Milky Way was a fun way to spend the evening.

Glow Games

Unfortunately Sunday started off damp, got a bit wetter and then remained drizzly for most of the morning. Thankfully we had Crate Stacking which remained fun what ever the weather could throw at us. It did mean we had to pack up some very damp tents before some lunch and heading home.

Crate Stack

Thanks to Tile Barn for having us, 4th Portsmouth for coming with us and all the boys for giving everything a go and getting Adventurous!
